『新内ミーツ人形劇：冬の夜話 & 牡丹燈籠』が2024ジム・ヘンソン財団の公演助成とユージン・オニール・センター・レジデンシーに選ばれました。ジム・ヘンソン財団はアメリカの人形劇シーンの中核団体で、この助成を受けるのは人形劇をやっている人にとって、とても嬉しくワクワクすることなのです。感謝！！！

11月の初演に、みなさまに楽しい作品をお見せできるよう、ますます精出します。

Café Royal Cultural Foundation NYC 2022 Fall Performance Grant

I am happy to announce that I have been awarded the Café Royal Cultural Foundation NYC 2022 Fall Performance Grant. 

I am very excited to work on my new experimental puppetry-music-storytelling, The Emotions: Equinox, collaborating with Object Designer / Video Designer Yudam Hyung-Seok Jeon and Puppet Builder and Puppeteer Emma Wiseman, with the support of this grant. The work is a reimagined folk festival celebrating the exact moment of the equinox with the audience after the long pause of the pandemic. Stay tuned!

The Emotions: Equinox will premiere at HERE, NYC, on March 22-23, 2023, as a part of a two act show, The Emotions, co-conceived with gamin, as a culmination of three years of residency at HERE.

2021 Jim Henson Foundation Artist Grant /ジム・ヘンソン財団2021年度助成

We are happy to announce that Nekaa Lab’s new project, ”Shinnai Meets Puppetry: One Night in Winter”, was selected for a 2021 Jim Henson Foundation Artist Grant.

The work combines puppetry and Shinnai-bushi Japanese storytelling. Sachiyo will be working with the amazing puppet artists Rowan Magee (lead puppeteer, puppet design and builder) and Nick Lehane.

We are extremely lucky to have this opportunity, and are looking forward to sharing this work with you in the near future!

Nekaa Labの新プロジェクト『新内ミーツ人形劇：冬の夜話』がジム・ヘンソン財団の2021年度助成に選ばれました。

ジム・ヘンソンはセサミストリートでおなじみの「マペット」の生みの親。彼の功績により、NYは人形劇がとっても盛んなのです。

新プロジェクトは人形劇とのコラボレーションを通して新内節を海外に紹介する試みで、シリーズ化の予定です。第一弾は、岡本文弥作の新作新内節『冬の夜話』を題材に、NYの新進気鋭の人形師 Rowan Magee (人形デザインおよび製作） と Nick Lehane とチームを組んであれこれ実験中。

The Emotions WIP - Streaming Concert Premiere

I’m currently developing a new interdisciplinary music theatre The Emotions together with an exceptional Korean instrumentalist gamin as residency artists at HERE Arts Center in NYC. Today, we had a streaming premiere of our first work-in-progress presentation. We are still in the early stage of production and decided to share our process with you. The first WIP of The Emotions takes the form of a small concert. Tracing the emotions in Asian music heritage, the program features a traditional Korean tune, traditional Japanese storytelling and an experimental session inspired by a mysterious Korean legend, The Song of Cheoyong.

NYのHERE Arts Centerのレジデンス・アーティストとして韓国伝統楽器奏者gaminさんと一緒に作っている新作「The Emotions (感情)」の製作途中発表の動画を公開しました。まだ制作の初期の段階ですが、動画をご覧頂き、ぜひご感想をお送り下さい〜

今回のワーク・イン・プログレスの発表は小さなコンサートの形式です。韓国の伝統的な音階を使ったgaminのソロ、私の新内節の古曲『蘭蝶』の演奏（岡本宮弥として）、韓国の伝説The Song of Cheoyong に着想を得たデュオ・セッションの３つで、アジアの古典の中にある感情を拾い上げながら、新しい表現の可能性に挑戦します。

HARP Residency - The Emotions

I started to work on the new project The Emotions together with Korean instrumentalist gamin through HARP residency at HERE Arts Centre, NYC.
We are re-examining human emotions from Eastern perspective, finding the materials from traditional music, poetry and storytelling.
The final performance will be a story of emotions told through the mixture of sound, puppetry/object manipulation, movement and lighting.
The premiere will be in 2022-2023 (TBD). We will present workshop performances on the way to share our experiments. Stay tuned!

韓国の伝統楽器奏者gaminさんと共に、新しいプロジェクト『感情』を立ち上げました。ニューヨークのオフ・オフ・ブロードウェー劇場HERE Arts Centreのアーティスト・レジデンス・プログラムHARPの一環として作品制作を始めています。
このプロジェクトは東アジアの伝統的な音楽や詩、語り物を研究素材として、東洋の視点から「感情」を捉えなおす試みです。最終的には音や人形・オブジェ、動きや光を組み合わせて、感覚を通して体験できる一つの＜感情の物語＞を作り出したいと思っています。
初演は2022-2023年シーズンでまだちょっと先ですが、制作途中で随時小さな発表をしていく予定です。どうぞお楽しみに。

Ukabu Cafe is open！ / 浮かぶカフェ 祝・開店！

I opened a cafe!
It’s not really a coffee shop - it’s a podcast called Ukabu Cafe which means ‘a cafe that floats’ in Japanese. I’m the ‘owner’ of the cafe, and ‘guests’ drop by. They bring voices, poetry, song, music, etc. 

In this world of uncertainty and challenges, I wanted to create a place that ‘floats up’ where we are a bit freer than on the ground and we could see the world from bird’s eye view to reflect on human beings. 

The language is in Japanese but hopefully you can feel a bit of the atmosphere! 
We are trying to distribute the new episode every Friday evening (Japan time).

The first episode’s guests are Japanese renown dancer/choreographer Un Yamada in her segment ‘radio dance’, Japanese renown poet Toshiko Hirata reading her new poetry in her segment ‘rather short room’ and young dancer from Un Yamada’s company Toru Hasegawa singing in his segment ‘sing-along cafe’.

突然ですが、カフェ始めました！
〈浮かぶカフェ〉といいます。
え？！
といってもカフェ形式のウェブラジオ。
私が店主で、「お客さま」の声を届けるお店です。

新型コロナの世界的流行や人種差別反対のデモの高まりの中で、人類が自分の立ち位置をしみじみ見つめて再確認する時が来ていると感じます。
地上の不自由さから少し自由になって物思ったり、ふわりと実験したり、俯瞰の位置から世界を見渡してみたり。そんな場所になればいいなと思って〈浮かぶカフェ〉と名付けました。

毎週金曜日夜配信予定です。

記念すべき第一回目のお客様はダンサー・振付家の山田うんさん、詩人の平田俊子さん、山田さんのダンスカンパニーCo.山田うんのダンサー長谷川暢さんです。

店主ひとりで、お客さまのお力に頼りっきりでやっているお店です。
新鮮で素敵な音を毎回お出しできるよう心掛けますので、どうぞご贔屓に。

Upcoming show: 'half way' for Un Yamada

I composed a soundtrack titled ‘half way’ for dancer/choreographer Un Yamada’s new solo, which will be premiered this week in Tallinn, Estonia at 1000 Cranes Festival. The second half of the piece is with Steve Reich’s Six Pianos played live by Tomoko Mukaiyama on the recorded layers of sound. I went to Tallinn long time ago to perform there when I was still living in Europe. This time, only my sound will go visit the city :).

今週、振付家・ダンサーの山田うんさんがエストニアのアジア・フェスティバル「1000 Cranes」で新作のソロを発表します。その音楽を担当しました。前半が私の作った音楽「half way」で、後半はスティーブ・ライヒの「6台のピアノ」を向井山朋子さんが録音音源に重ねてライブ演奏するそうです。エストニアの首都タリンには、ヨーロッパでの修行時代に公演で行ったことがあるので懐かしい。山？の上で日光浴した思い出が。今回行けないのが残念。音だけ飛ばします！ ピューン。

Starting a New Cycle
